Public buses cover the city extensively and offer budget-friendly fares, though routes and signage are primarily in Chinese, manageable with a transit app but potentially frustrating on first arrival. For most visitors, DiDi (China's dominant ride-hailing platform) is the practical workhorse: download it before you arrive, link a payment method via Alipay or WeChat Pay, and you'll move around the city comfortably at economy prices. Standard taxis are available but DiDi typically offers more transparency on fares and routing. Note that without a Chinese mobile number and payment app configured, hailing transport options narrow considerably, sorting out Alipay or WeChat Pay before landing is worth the effort. Zhuhai's geography makes two border connections essential context. Gongbei Port is the pedestrian crossing into Macau, one of the busiest land border crossings in the world, and is entirely walkable once you're in the Gongbei district. The **Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge** (opened 2018) connects to Hong Kong via cross-boundary coaches, making day trips feasible. Buses depart from the Zhuhai Passenger Clearance Building on the bridge's Zhuhai side. The coastal Zhuhai Tram runs along the scenic waterfront and is a pleasant, low-cost way to explore the Lovers Road area, though it covers a limited corridor rather than the full city. From Zhuhai Jinwan Airport (ZUH): Airport express buses and taxis connect to the city centre, with the journey typically taking 30-50 minutes depending on your destination. DiDi also operates from the airport pickup area. Avoid tout drivers offering unofficial transfers inside the terminal, use the metered taxi rank or book DiDi from the designated pickup zone outside arrivals.
