When to Visit Zhuhai

Zhuhai in January is mild and mostly dry, with highs around 18°C and cool 11°C nights that call for a light jacket after dark. Skies can turn grey and damp for a few days at a stretch. But rain is light and brief. It is a quiet, comfortable month for city sightseeing, broken only by the increase around Chinese New Year if it falls late in the month.

February stays mild and a touch damp, highs near 19°C and lows around 12°C, with occasional drizzle and low cloud rolling in off the strait. If Lunar New Year lands this month the city fills fast, hotels book out and the Hengqin theme parks heave. Outside that window it is one of the calmer, cheaper times to visit.

Spring arrives in March: highs climb to about 21°C, the parks green up, and the famous flowering trees begin to show. Humidity is creeping back and a grey, drizzly spell or two is likely. But it remains one of the most pleasant months for walking Lovers' Road or taking a ferry to the islands before the summer heat sets in.

April turns noticeably warmer and wetter, highs around 25°C with rising humidity and the first heavy afternoon showers of the wet season. The light, low cloud and sea mist can blur the skyline. But warm days between the downpours are lovely. Carry a compact umbrella everywhere. The rain arrives with little warning.

May is hot, humid and properly wet, highs near 29°C and the rainy season in full swing with frequent, sometimes torrential downpours. The sea is warming nicely for a swim and the islands are lush. But pack serious rain gear and build flexibility into island plans, as heavy weather can disrupt ferry schedules at short notice.

June is hot and intensely humid, highs around 31°C, with some of the heaviest rainfall of the year and the first risk of an early-season typhoon. This is air-conditioning weather: indoor draws like Chimelong Ocean Kingdom on Hengqin shine, while outdoor plans need a wet-weather backup. The upside is warm seas and low-season value mid-month.

July is the peak of summer, hot, sticky and stormy, with highs of 32°C and the real heart of typhoon season. Most days bring fierce sunshine broken by sudden heavy showers, and an approaching tropical storm can shut down ferries and outdoor sites for a day or two. School holidays pack the theme parks. Book Hengqin resorts well ahead.

August matches July for heat and humidity, highs near 32°C, and sees the highest typhoon risk of the year. Between systems the weather is hot and brilliantly bright. When one tracks in, expect lashing rain and cancelled sailings. It is the busiest, most expensive stretch of summer, driven by domestic family holidays around the parks and beaches.

September stays hot at around 31°C and remains within typhoon season, though the very wettest weather begins to ease as the month goes on. Once the summer holiday crowds thin after the first week it becomes better value, and the warm sea still invites a swim. Keep an eye on storm forecasts before committing to any island day trip.

October is Zhuhai at its best: the rain switches off, humidity drops, and warm 29°C days settle into soft, dry evenings good for the coastal promenade. The catch is the National Day Golden Week at the start of the month, when domestic tourism peaks and prices spike. Come mid-to-late October for the same glorious weather with far thinner crowds.

November is arguably the finest month to visit, dry, comfortably warm at about 25°C, with crisp clear light that makes the islands and the Fisher Girl statue photograph beautifully. Evenings turn pleasantly cool. Crowds and prices fall back to normal after the October holiday, making it the ideal blend of weather, value and calm.

December is mild and dry, highs around 20°C with cool 13°C evenings that warrant a light jacket. Bright comfortable days are good for unhurried city sightseeing and walks to the Macau border at Gongbei, and the sea, though too cool for swimming, looks its clear winter best. Crowds stay light until the year-end holiday period.
